Ridge Street Historic District preserves a residential streetscape south of downtown Charlottesville.

Houses from the nineteenth century and the neighborhood’s African American history make the district meaningful beyond its individual architectural details.
Plan a respectful walk along public sidewalks and consult the state heritage account for historical context. This remains a residential neighborhood, with private homes rather than a collection of buildings open for tours. The photograph shows one street corner, not the entire district. Keep driveways and entrances clear, avoid photographing residents closely and do not enter gardens or porches without permission.
