About Cherry St Historic District
Cherry Street’s historic homes sit just north of downtown Santa Rosa, with larger Victorian houses, smaller bungalows and rear garages reached by narrow driveways. Residential parking eligibility depends on the address. Central Santa Rosa Library is nearby to the south, and exterior renovations can involve historic review.
Housing layout and garage access
Cherry Street has a mix of larger Victorian houses and smaller early twentieth-century homes. The City’s district description identifies one- and two-story houses, with larger homes along Cherry Street itself. Rear alleys serve properties on the street’s north side, while detached garages elsewhere commonly sit at the side or rear of a lot with narrow driveway access.
Resident permits on Cherry Street and adjoining blocks
Cherry Street, Beaver Street, Humboldt Street and Orchard Street appear in the City’s Downtown residential parking-zone list. Not every address on those streets qualifies. The Parking Division can confirm the address at 707-543-3325, and the program page links the zone map.
Qualified residents apply with proof of residence, vehicle registration and a current driver’s license. Permits run for one year, with no more than three issued per qualifying address. This is a street-parking program, separate from any private driveway or garage included with a home.
Library trips south of the neighborhood
Central Santa Rosa Library is nearby at 211 E Street, south of the residential district. Its posted schedule includes Tuesday and Wednesday evenings until 8 p.m. and Sunday opening from 1 to 5 p.m., except holiday closures. The branch has computers, printing and copying; using a library card provides up to $5 of printing or copying per person each day.
Planning exterior changes
Santa Rosa’s preservation process can apply to replacement windows, doors, additions and fences on historic properties. The City links the district map, exempt-work rules and Landmark Alteration Permit application from its preservation page. A home’s historic status can therefore affect the scope and approval process for a planned exterior renovation.
