Tempe neighborhoods: ASU-area streets, west Tempe and the Apache corridor

Maple Ash, Broadmor, Daley Park, west Tempe and the Apache corridor through nine researched neighborhood profiles, with housing settings, transport connections and everyday public services.

Tempe’s residential choices include older streets west and south of ASU, west-side neighborhoods around public parks, and home lots and apartment buildings along the Apache corridor. This guide connects nine researched neighborhood profiles with their housing settings and everyday services. The Tempe neighborhood directory contains the individual pages; this is a starting selection rather than an inventory of every community.

Maple Ash and Daley Park: older residential streets near ASU

Maple Ash, west of ASU, includes the Gage Addition, Park Tract and College View subdivisions. Its profile links individual historic-house records and the city’s preservation office. Those records help distinguish a particular building’s history from the broader neighborhood name.

Daley Park is south of campus around College Avenue and Encanto Drive. The 17-acre public park is a larger recreation destination than Maple Ash’s small Birchett Park. Tempe reports that Daley’s 2026 improvements are complete, including inclusive play elements, new trees and fitness stations. The profile also explains College Avenue’s free Jupiter connection toward campus and the library.

Broadmor: College Avenue south of Broadway

Broadmor continues the residential College Avenue setting south of Broadway Road. Its postwar housing history includes Broadmor Estates and flood-irrigated landscaping. Tempe lists Broadmor II and Broadmor Place separately, so the linked profile follows the Broadmor identity rather than combining nearby labels.

For a home receiving city-operated flood irrigation, the city’s service page sets out a specific upkeep arrangement: residents maintain berms, clear pipes and leave valve access open; Tempe staff operate the city-run valves. The published schedule excludes November and December during SRP’s dry-up. This is a property service with maintenance obligations, not an amenity attached to every Broadmor address.

Clark Park, Holdeman and Mitchell Park: different west Tempe anchors

Clark Park combines residential blocks north of Broadway with a community center at 1730 South Roosevelt Street. The center’s facility page confirms a year-round heated outdoor pool and a small library lending books for three weeks. Swimming sessions, classes and building opening have separate schedules.

Holdeman is farther west between the Priest and Hardy corridors. Its profile includes the neighborhood association’s completed Hardy Drive bike-lane mural project and the elementary school’s address-lookup links. Clark Park’s center is a neighboring service to the east.

Mitchell Park has residential blocks around a former school site between University Drive and 11th Street. The public park is at Mitchell Drive and Ninth Street. Its dog run closes for maintenance on Wednesdays, 6 a.m.–1 p.m., while the larger park includes play areas, courts and a skate park. That weekly closure matters for a regular dog-walking routine.

Alegre and Escalante: apartments, home lots and Apache access

Alegre Community includes residential streets near Hayden Lane and Don Carlos Avenue, north of Apache Boulevard. Its profile uses Hayden Lane apartments at 1876–1896 East Hayden Lane as a concrete rental example. The operator lists shared laundry, parking and covered-parking options; these are different household arrangements from an individual house and yard. Alegre Park is the small local playground and soccer-field destination on Don Carlos.

Escalante adds postwar subdivision history and the larger park and multi-generational center on Orange Street. The profile explains facility membership, fitness access and the Thew-only after-school program’s registration limits. Apache Boulevard is the rail corridor south of these residential streets, rather than a station inside every subdivision.

Victory Acres: La Victoria and the Price Road crossing

Victory Acres, also known as La Victoria, has a distinct history of postwar home lots and Mexican American community life near the Tempe Canal. Esquer Park at McArthur Drive and Lebanon Lane supplies local play and sports facilities. Its splash pad has a seasonal timetable, separate from daily park opening.

The rail parking reference is Price-101 Freeway/Apache Boulevard at 2235 East Apache Boulevard, west of the freeway corridor. Valley Metro’s park-and-ride directory also lists McClintock/Apache at 1811 East Apache Boulevard, which serves a different part of the Apache corridor. The Victory Acres profile explains the station approach and public computer and printing access at the Escalante center across Price Road.

Local trips and public workspaces beyond one neighborhood

Tempe’s Orbit network provides free neighborhood circulators. Extra Mercury and Mars “Short Trips” end before the full route terminus, so the destination sign matters for journeys beyond the added-service section. Light rail, streetcar and regional buses are separate services; the city transport page links their operating maps and fares.

For a public workspace south of the campus neighborhoods, Tempe Public Library is at 3500 South Rural Road, near Southern Avenue. Its eight study rooms are free to reserve with a valid library card for groups of one to eight, up to two hours per day. Clark Park’s book borrowing and Escalante’s lobby computers provide other, smaller service points closer to their surrounding residential streets.
