La Victoria’s residential history, Esquer Park and Apache corridor connections

About Victory Acres

Victory Acres, also known as La Victoria, is an east Tempe neighborhood with postwar housing roots near the Tempe Canal. Esquer Park provides local play and sports facilities, while Apache Boulevard supplies rail access. The Escalante center west of Price Road adds public computers, printing and recreation services.

La Victoria’s postwar housing roots

The city’s Apache area history identifies Victory Acres as La Victoria. Its origins lie in farmland subdivided into home lots in 1945, with space for victory gardens. Mexican American families built a lasting community here, including residents displaced from other Tempe barrios during university expansion.

This history explains the neighborhood’s residential identity near the Tempe Canal; the larger apartment and mixed-use projects along Apache Boulevard are a different housing setting from the original home-lot subdivisions.

Esquer Park at McArthur and Lebanon

Esquer Park is at McArthur Drive and Lebanon Lane, east of Price Road and north of Apache Boulevard. The three-acre park has a playground, basketball courts, game tables, picnic ramadas, grills and a skate-and-bike area. Regular park hours are 6 a.m.–10 p.m.

The park honors the Esquer family, who moved into Victory Acres in 1946. It provides a local outdoor recreation space within the residential area, distinct from the community-center buildings across Price Road.

The splash pad has its own seasonal schedule

The Esquer splash pad is listed at 2407 East McArthur Drive, with free parking. Its posted July 27–October schedule is Monday–Thursday 3–10 p.m., Friday noon–10 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m.–10 p.m. This is a seasonal water-play timetable; the park’s longer daily opening does not establish splash-pad operation outside those months.

Price-101/Apache is the rail reference

Valley Metro lists the Price-101 Freeway/Apache Boulevard park-and-ride at 2235 East Apache Boulevard. That address is on the west side of the Price/Loop 101 corridor, while much of Victory Acres’ residential area is to the east. The station approach therefore includes the freeway corridor rather than a rail entrance within the residential streets.

Computers and printing at the Escalante center

Escalante Multi-Generational Center at 2150 East Orange Street has public computers in its lobby. Access requires a free facility membership and a Tempe Public Library computer-access card, both available through the front desk. Printing costs 25 cents per page, paid before printing; computer use ends 15 minutes before building closure.

Regular building hours are Monday–Thursday 8 a.m.–9 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.–8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday 1–6 p.m. Gym and youth or teen spaces use separate program hours. The center is west of Price Road, separate from Esquer Park’s neighborhood facilities.
