About Cathedral
Cathedral’s hillside streets west of downtown contain historic houses and the Cathedral of Saint Joseph on Duluth Avenue. The City’s historic-district viewer provides property-level context, while Downtown Library is a separate destination downhill on North Dakota Avenue.
Historic houses on the hillside west of downtown
The American Planning Association’s account of the Cathedral Historic District describes large Victorian and post-Victorian houses on ground above downtown. Its 2010 neighborhood designation is historical context, not a current property inventory. The City’s Historic District Viewer is the current local starting point for locating a home within a designated district; an estate agent’s use of “Cathedral” is a broader location description.
The cathedral’s lower Duluth Avenue entrance
The Cathedral of Saint Joseph lists entrances for visitors with reduced mobility at lower Duluth Avenue and the North Transept. Posted cathedral hours are 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; parish-office hours differ. Weekend visitors work around more liturgies, and the office handles tour arrangements at 605-336-7390. The lower entrance is useful arrival information for this landmark, rather than a measure of accessibility across the surrounding hillside streets.
Downtown Library is a separate North Dakota Avenue stop
Downtown Library is at 200 North Dakota Avenue, phone 605-367-8700. It provides public computers, Wi-Fi, mobile printing, scanning and study rooms. Regular hours are 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and 1–5 p.m. Sunday. This is a downtown service destination, not a branch inside the residential Cathedral district.
