Cleveland Park centers on Connecticut Avenue’s shops, library and Red Line station, with residential streets extending west and wooded parkland to the east and south. A home on the avenue offers a different starting point from one near Wisconsin Avenue or the Tregaron paths. Woodley Park lies to the south and Van Ness to the north; their neighborhood pages cover those areas separately.
Apartment features vary within historic buildings
Sedgwick Gardens, at 3726 Connecticut Avenue NW, offers studios through three-bedroom apartments in an Art Deco building. Its amenities page distinguishes shared laundry with app-based machines from washers and dryers available only in selected apartments. Dishwashers, gas ranges and several renovated kitchen features are also marked as unit-specific.
The operator lists a 24-hour front desk, package receiving, a fitness center, complimentary bicycle storage and rentable storage. Off-street parking carries an additional fee; no price is supplied on that page. The leasing phone is 877-274-5755. These are this building’s advertised features, not a description of every Cleveland Park rental.
The DC renting guide explains unit licensing and registration records. The Washington moving guide covers utility setup, school enrollment routes and other District services.
Historic-district boundaries matter for renovation
The Office of Planning’s Cleveland Park Historic District page provides the official map, nomination and building information. A real estate neighborhood label does not establish whether a house is within that district.
For designated historic properties, DC’s permit guidance requires preservation review when permitted work affects the exterior appearance. Window replacement, additions and exterior alterations can therefore involve more than an ordinary repair decision. Historic Preservation Office (HPO) clearance is part of the building-permit process; there is no separate preservation permit to obtain. The department also publishes exempt work, including routine maintenance and certain window repairs.
The Metro elevator is on Connecticut Avenue’s east side
Cleveland Park is on the Red Line. WMATA’s equipment directory places the street-to-mezzanine elevator on the east side of Connecticut Avenue and lists the platform elevator separately. Its outage notices are especially relevant to visitors using wheelchairs, strollers or heavy luggage.
For a step-free approach, use that east-side street elevator and its current service status rather than choosing an entrance solely by proximity. The DC transport guide covers connections beyond the neighborhood, including toward Dupont Circle.
Groceries and a seasonal Saturday market
Yes! Organic Market’s location directory lists the Cleveland Park store at 3425 Connecticut Avenue NW, with phone 202-363-1559. It is a grocery stop on the avenue rather than a weekly market.
The separate FRESHFARM Cleveland Park market operates at 3400 Connecticut Avenue NW. Its posted 2026 season is April 4–December 19, Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m., with produce, meats and prepared foods. That seasonal schedule should not be read as year-round Saturday service.
Library services on the avenue
Cleveland Park Library, at 3310 Connecticut Avenue NW, has public computers, printing and scanning, meeting and study rooms, and a reading garden. The branch directory gives its phone as 202-282-3080.
Regular hours are 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday–Wednesday, noon–8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday–Saturday and 1–5 p.m. Sunday.
Tregaron footpaths and the paved Klingle Valley connection
Tregaron Conservancy is free to enter daily from dawn to dusk. Its visitor guide gives a Macomb Street entrance at 3100 Macomb Street NW, just east of the Washington International School driveway. The Klingle Road gate is across from 3031 Klingle Road NW.
The grounds have mulched paths, uneven terrain, rustic stairs and stepping stones, with no restrooms. Dogs must be leashed; bicycles and scooters are prohibited inside the Conservancy. The adjacent school campus is closed to the public, and visitors cannot park on its driveway.
For cycling, the separate Klingle Valley Trail is a 0.7-mile paved pedestrian and bicycle route connecting toward Rock Creek Park. Tregaron has entrances from this trail with bicycle racks, allowing a ride to end at the entrance before continuing on foot.
The Zoo is free, with entry passes required
The National Zoo has its main pedestrian entrance at 3001 Connecticut Avenue NW. Smithsonian visitor information requires free entry passes for every guest, including infants. Admission being free does not remove that reservation step.
