Living in Navy Yard, DC: apartment fees, Metro access and riverfront services

Published apartment charges, the two Green Line entrances, waterfront park rules, M Street groceries and nearby library services.

Navy Yard brings apartment buildings, restaurants and waterfront parks together along the Anacostia River in Southeast Washington. Nationals Park anchors the Half Street side; The Yards extends east toward the Washington Navy Yard installation. Capitol Hill is a separate area to the north, and Buzzard Point lies west of South Capitol Street.

Apartment costs beyond the advertised rent

Navy Yard Urby, at 1331 Yards Place SE, offers studios through three-bedroom apartments. The operator lists a 24-hour gym and yoga studio, rooftop pool and terrace, work-from-home study, courtyard, dog park and onsite cafe. The leasing contact is 202-932-9655.

Its posted fee schedule separates a $50 application fee, a standard $500 security deposit and an annual amenity fee. The amenity charge is $550 for studios and one-bedrooms, or $750 for two- and three-bedrooms. The standard deposit can change with screening, subject to legal limits.

Parking is listed separately at $325 per vehicle per month, storage lockers at $100 monthly, and pet rent at 1% of the monthly apartment rent per animal. Electricity is directly metered; heating/cooling, water and sewer are submetered, with additional listed utility base charges. These are Urby’s published terms as checked October 22, 2026, not average costs or availability claims for Navy Yard.

The DC renting guide explains licensing, rent-stabilization registration and unit-level rules. Those records identify a unit’s coverage and licensing separately from its advertised amenities.

Two station entrances serve different approaches

Navy Yard–Ballpark is on the Green Line. Its entrances are on M Street SE at Half Street and at New Jersey Avenue. Half Street leads toward the ballpark; the New Jersey Avenue side provides the approach described in The Yards’ directions for the waterfront and nearby businesses.

WMATA’s equipment directory lists elevator routes at both the Navy Yard and Navy Yard West entrances. The directory reports elevator and escalator outages for each entrance. The DC transport guide has wider network context.

For ballpark visits, the Nationals’ information guide lists free bicycle valet on First Street SE near N Street SE.

Waterfront parks have different facilities and rules

The Yards Park is at 355 Water Street SE. Its operator’s page describes lawns, a riverfront boardwalk, ramps and a fenced dog run east of the Great Lawn. Dogs must be leashed elsewhere and are excluded from water features. Swimming and wading in the Canal Basin are prohibited; the basin is not a public pool.

Canal Park, at 200 M Street SE, extends north of M Street for three blocks. Its park page identifies lawns and benches, warm-season water features and winter skating. Water features and skating follow seasonal schedules. The park also requires leashes and excludes dogs from water features.

Groceries on M Street and library services in Southwest

Harris Teeter at The Yards, 401 M Street SE, posts grocery hours of 6 a.m.–11 p.m. daily. The store phone is 202-554-0164. Pharmacy hours and its daily closure are listed separately from grocery hours.

Southwest Library is at 900 Wesley Place SW, outside the immediate Navy Yard riverfront. The DCPL branch directory lists computers, printing and scanning, meeting and study rooms, Wi-Fi and assistive technology. Regular hours are 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday–Wednesday, noon–8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday–Saturday and 1–5 p.m. Sunday. The branch phone is 202-724-4298.

Flood maps for the building’s location

DOEE’s Flood Risk Tool accepts an address and displays FEMA flood-insurance maps, the District’s Integrated Flood Model, storm surge and sea-level-rise layers. The layers can be selected separately for the building’s map location.
