Fairlane apartments, UMID shuttle access, Michigan Avenue buses and shopping
About Fairlane
Fairlane brings apartment communities, Fairlane Town Center and university campuses together north of Michigan Avenue in central Dearborn.
The Fairlane area is larger than the shopping mall
Fairlane sits north of Michigan Avenue between Dearborn’s two downtown districts. A 2017 study prepared with the City’s Planning Division examined the area around Fairlane Town Center, the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford College. Its focus area lay between Ford Road, Southfield Freeway, Michigan Avenue and the Rouge River. That historical planning boundary explains the area’s mix of campuses, apartments and shopping; it does not make the mall itself a residential neighborhood.
Apartments on Lincoln Lane and privately owned student housing
Fairlane Town Center Apartment Homes is at 100 Lincoln Lane, phone 313-351-8321. The operator lists in-home washers and dryers, a gated entrance with audio intercom, a fitness center and an outdoor pool. Private entrances, covered balconies and gas fireplaces are listed only for selected floorplans. This apartment community is a separate property from the shopping mall with a similar name.
UM-Dearborn does not offer university-owned housing. Its housing page directs students to privately owned options and an off-campus marketplace with roommate and sublease tools. Some nearby properties advertise campus shuttle access, but the university’s boarding requirements and term schedule determine who can use that service.
The campus shuttle requires a UMID card
For fall 2026, UM-Dearborn’s Maize shuttle links Fairlane Meadows, Fairlane Center, Fairlane Woods and the Renick University Center. Posted service hours are 7:40 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 7:40 a.m.–7 p.m. Friday, with holiday and end-of-term exceptions. Riders must present a UMID card. A separate Saturday shopping shuttle runs 9 a.m.–2 p.m., with grouped visits to stores including Kroger, Randazzos and Patel Brothers; Sunday shuttle service is not provided.
DDOT Route 2 provides a public connection along Michigan Avenue
DDOT’s Route 2 Michigan connects Fairlane Town Center with Rosa Parks Transit Center in downtown Detroit, using Michigan Avenue. The linked operating schedule for September 7, 2026–February 7, 2027 lists weekday peak service every twenty minutes, weekday daytime service every thirty minutes and Sunday service every fifty-five minutes. This public bus is separate from UM-Dearborn’s restricted campus shuttle.
Fairlane Town Center’s address and opening hours
The shopping mall is at 18900 Michigan Avenue, phone 313-661-3963. Its published hours are 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Friday–Saturday and noon–6 p.m. Sunday. The operator’s site includes a store directory. The entrance photograph on this page is archival, showing the mall in 2007; its storefront signs do not establish today’s tenants.
