About Fordson East

Fordson East extends from the Greenfield Road side of eastern Dearborn toward Detroit. Hemlock Park and PEACE Park East provide outdoor destinations, while the nearby Esper Library remains closed for renovation.

An “as-is” sale can leave the buyer responsible for repairs

Dearborn’s buying-and-selling FAQ describes a compliance agreement for a home sold with outstanding city inspection violations. The buyer takes responsibility for the remaining work through arrangements in the purchase agreement, and the closing document is obtained from the City before closing. When considering such a home, request the inspection report and identify the work you would inherit; an “as-is” price alone does not show that cost.

The same FAQ distinguishes the City’s minimum safety inspection from a private inspection, which can examine the property in greater detail. A city inspection should therefore not be treated as a complete assessment of a home’s condition.

Repair assistance has a one-year ownership requirement

The City’s Home Rehabilitation Program serves qualifying low- and moderate-income owner-occupants who have owned and occupied a one-family Dearborn home for at least one year. Assistance is secured by a zero-interest deferred mortgage, with a maximum term of 20 years. Listed work includes roofs, plumbing, furnaces and major sewer repairs. This is a possible resource for eligible established owners, rather than money a new buyer can assume will cover immediate repairs. The separate Front Porch & Step Replacement Program is listed as on hold as of October 22, 2026.

Hemlock Park and PEACE Park East offer different outings

Hemlock Park at 13335 Hemlock has a walking track, soccer and basketball facilities, play equipment, picnic space and a splash pad. PEACE Park East at 13621 Michigan Avenue is a downtown gathering destination with seating pods, a children’s play area and a large chess board. Hemlock is the more relevant destination for the listed sports facilities; the Michigan Avenue park suits a stop during a downtown outing.

Esper is closed; Centennial provides the operating library alternative

Esper Branch Library at 12929 West Warren is listed as temporarily closed for renovation as of October 22, 2026. The library system’s operating Henry Ford Centennial Library is at 16301 Michigan Avenue. Esper cannot currently serve as a walk-in local branch.
